About Merton U3A

We have 100 friendly activity and study groups run by our own members. The groups cover an enormous range of interests. Visit our Groups by Subject page to see them organised by genre, or our Group Schedule to see what's on each day of the week.

We also hold monthly talks, coffee mornings, make visits to places of interest, have study days, short courses and several summer schools each year.

Our groups are informal and there are no qualifications or examinations. Most groups meet in members' homes during the day, weekly, fortnightly or monthly, and consist of between 6 and 12 people. In addition there are some larger groups that meet in Drake House, near Wimbledon Station or in Colliers Wood Community Centre.

Our members often join and / or lead more than one group.

Each group has its own volunteer leader or co-ordinator who has a particular interest or expertise in the subject. For modern languages, for example, most of the group leaders are native speakers of the language concerned.

Members are retired or semi-retired and offer their services free of charge, whether it is expertise or a room in their home or help with administration, and this enables the annual subscription to be kept low - £12 single and £20 double. There may be small additional charges for certain groups where a room is hired.

For background about the U3A movement, see the U3A story here.
